One class. One turn each.

Classroom Name Picker

Pick one present student immediately, keep picked names out until everyone has had a turn, and mark today's absences without deleting anyone from the class list.

Build the class list

Who is in this class?

2–100

Enter one student name per line. Blank lines are ignored. You can paste a newline-separated class list; each name may use up to 60 characters.

Classroom round

Start a new round?

A new round clears the picked history and current result. Students marked absent stay absent.

Everyone once

Run a round without keeping a separate tally

Every present student starts as available. After WheelSays picks an entry, that participant ID moves into Picked this round and cannot be selected again until you start a new round. The remaining count therefore tells you how many present students have not yet had a turn. This route selects one student at a time; use the Random Team Generator when the task is to divide a whole roster into groups, or the Random List Shuffler when everyone should receive a complete order at once. To give students separate classroom jobs or presentation topics, use the Random Assignment Generator.

Attendance and recovery

Keep absences separate from the class list

Marking a student absent removes them from the eligible pool without deleting their name. If a picked student is then marked absent, both facts remain visible and their turn still counts for that round. Reinstating them does not create a repeat. Undo last pick removes only the latest pick; that student becomes eligible again only if present. Meanwhile, Start new round clears the current result and picked history but preserves absences. Mark everyone present clears attendance flags without changing who has already been picked.

Names and identity

Duplicate names remain different students

Each line receives its own temporary participant ID, so two entries named Alex remain two chances and two separate round states. WheelSays displays them as “Alex, 1 of 2” and “Alex, 2 of 2” without changing the saved labels. Add a surname initial or familiar nickname when those numbered occurrences would not identify the right person in the room. Unicode and emoji are retained as entered, subject to the same 60-character label limit as other roster tools.

Random selection

What the picker does, and what it does not claim

When two or more students are eligible, WheelSays picks one at random. Each eligible entry has the same chance of being picked, wherever it appears in the list. When only one student remains, that entry is selected directly because there is no random decision to make. Once picked, the entry stays out of the current round. There is no hidden weighting, pre-arranged call order, immediate-repeat rule, or replacement mode. If secure randomness is unavailable during a multi-student choice, the current round remains unchanged and the picker shows a retryable error. For an animated independent choice instead, use the WheelSays decision wheel.

Browser-local by design

Save the roster only when you choose to

The current pick, attendance flags, participant IDs, and round history stay in memory and disappear when this page is refreshed or left. The explicit Save control stores only the generic list name and ordered student labels in this browser; it does not store a classroom marker or participation record. Enter only the label needed to distinguish a student, and remember that displaying a result on a projector makes it visible to the room.
