Plan the next classroom step
Classroom
Calling on one student and giving the whole class a presentation order are different jobs. Choose the result the lesson needs before you paste any names. These four tools cover participation, groups, sequences and matching students to separate jobs or topics.
Four jobs, four ways to use the list
Make groups for an activity
Random Team Generator
Split a list into random teams with sizes kept as even as possible.
Paste the names and choose how many teams you need. Group sizes stay as even as the numbers allow. This balances headcounts, not ability, friendships or support needs. Review whether those groups suit the activity before using them.
Give each present student a turn
Classroom Name Picker
Pick one present student at a time without repeats until everyone has had a turn.
Use this when you want one name now and another later. Mark absent students without deleting them, see who has been picked, and undo the latest pick if needed. A new round makes present students available again while retaining the absence settings.
Set a presentation running order
Random List Shuffler
Put every list entry into one complete random order, keeping repeated labels separate.
Use one list when everyone needs a position at once. Copy the complete result in numbered or plain form. Two students with the same displayed name remain separate entries, so give them distinguishable labels if the order will be read aloud.
Allocate classroom jobs or topics
Random Assignment Generator
Match people to tasks, roles or items, with balanced loads and optional required or excluded pairs.
Put students in People and jobs or topics in the second list. Equal lists give one item to each person. Required or excluded pairs can express a specific condition. If the lists differ, review the allocation mode and the resulting loads before sharing the result.
Before names go on the screen
- Use labels the class can recognise. A first name plus an initial may be enough. Include only what is needed to tell people apart, especially on a shared display.
- Choose what should happen after the first result. Classroom Picker tracks turns within a round. A new team draw, shuffle or assignment can repeat an earlier result; those tools do not maintain a lesson-to-lesson rotation history.
- Decide who will see it. Processing names in the browser does not hide the screen from a projector, a nearby student or somebody using the same device. Copy or display only the result you intend to share.
Keep the task in view. For a whole-class order, start with Shuffle; for a separate list of duties, start with Assignment. The assignment and ordering comparison explains unequal lists and the difference between random and balanced results in more detail.
